Description: The Assembly of First Nations (AFN) is seeking an innovative, talented, team-oriented, passionate individual with a keen ability to support and assist with internal and external communications, with a special focus on digital and social media.
The incumbent will support the AFN team and inform AFN’s audiences about activities, events and initiatives that advance First Nations priorities, enhance engagement and positive online discussion in support of AFN’s advocacy efforts. The successful candidate will collaborate cross organizationally to develop and implement social media plans and content to maximize, monitor and evaluate audience engagement through best practices across all social media platforms, while maintaining AFN’s brand identity. The successful candidate will work together with the AFN communications team to coordinate a social media calendar that supports and enhances broader communications plans, strategies, and AFN advocacy.

- Knowledge of AFN, First Nations organizational structures, governmental structures, mandates, interest, concerns, program mandates, key personnel within the organization and program activities of other jurisdictions which are related to or have an impact on AFN activities
- Undergraduate degree or diploma in Communications, Marketing, Business, New Media, Journalism or Public Relations
- Proven working experience in social media, marketing or in a digital media capacity
- Excellent collaborative, consulting, writing, editing (photo/video/text), presentation and communication skills
- Demonstrated social networking experience and social analytics tools and knowledge
- Adequate knowledge of web design, web development, web traffic metrics, web/social media KPIs, and SEO (Search Engine Optimization)
- Knowledge of online marketing and good understanding of major marketing channels
- Demonstrated ability in photo and video editing
- Positive attitude, detail oriented with good multitasking and organization abilities
- Ability to work as part of a team in a fast-paced environment with multiple priorities
- Expertise in plain language and writing for print, social and web
- Experience using a CMS system such as Hootsuite
- Experience running email campaigns using Mailchimp
- Up to date with the latest communications trends and best practices
- Ability to create, run and boost ads on AFN’s social platforms and other digital communication channels
- Graphic design skills and proficiency in Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Premiere Pro, Canva
- English is the working language although the ability to communicate effectively in French or any Indigenous language is considered an asset

Location: Ottawa, Ontario. Please note that the AFN is working to ensure the health, safety, and well-being of our employees. Our offices have re-opened as of April 4th and are presently operating under a hybrid approach
