Job Description: The Assembly of First Nations (AFN) is pleased to announce that we are currently recruiting for the positions (3) of Information Desk Workers, including team leader all of whom will report to the Director of the Children, Families and Social Development Sector.

The AFN is launching an Information Desk to assist First Nations persons to seek information about and apply for compensation under the recently announced Agreement-in-Principle to provide compensation for First Nations children and their caregivers who were discriminated against in the First Nations Child and Family Services Program and Jordan’s Principle. Information Desk Workers will work directly with clients by responding to questions regarding the compensation process and/or assisting them with completing application forms. The Information Desk Workers will also facilitate connections to a continuum of support services for applicants who may experience a traumatic response.

Key Job Responsibilities:

  •  Provide information and/or assistance to First Nations clients who wish to apply for compensation
  •  Provide support and referrals to applicants 
  •  Complete client record information using database software
  •  Provide regular reports to the Director as required
  •  Liaise with referral agencies and partners as required
  •  Undertake related policy research activities as required
  •  Work collaboratively with team members and other stakeholders as required 
  •  Attend and actively participate in team meetings, other related meetings and program meetings as required
  •  Other related duties as may be required from time to time

Qualifications

  •  University degree in a related field (i.e. Social Work, Counselling) 
  •  Minimum 3 years’ experience providing direct or referral services to clients in need is preferred
  •  Demonstrated experience with crisis intervention techniques and theory-based practice for clients in need is preferred; however, training will be provided to the selected candidates
  •  Working knowledge and understanding First Nations context related to child and family services and Jordan’s Principle, past and present
  •  Able to work compassionately with clients from diverse communities and backgrounds
  •  Able to function well under pressure and able to maintain composure during challenging situations
  •  Bilingualism (French/English) and/or Indigenous language is an asset

Other Job Requirements: The AFN requires proof of COVID-19 vaccination as a condition of employment

Location: Ottawa, Ontario. Please note that the AFN is working to ensure the health, safety, and well-being of our employees. Our offices have re-opened as of April 4th and are presently operating under a hybrid approach
